Nowadays, many of the artists represent the interest in language and sound as a core element of human society through diverse modern expressive methods including video art, image, installation, and performance. Words from people, in other words; imaging the communication when installation or performance was not a mainstream in the field of pure fine art might have been difficult. When many of the artists made a new venture in their own areas, Nauman selecting an expression mode of pop fine artist adhering to design element of letters in the 1960s and representing an exhibition that showed how convenient communication with artists was feasible through publicized works is one of the artists I, as a person eagerly pursue to freely express the subjects in communication but also image the sound and letters, desperately want to study.

Nauman made his debut as a painter in the field of fine artist but expanded his areas of specialty into performance, sculpture, installation, video, movie, photo, and drawing after stop working on painting since 1965. He placed higher priority on manufacturing courses over completed works as well as on a course of creating substances and changes.

Neon sign pieceswere firstly displayed in his private exhibition in 1968 representing how much he was interested in physical body. He treated physical body as an object and focused only on behaviors of body movement. This is in the same context from Storyteller by Walter Benjamin that people exist as a role of medium with body conveying the meaning while communicating with words including sounds. In 1970, he expanded a range of themes he dealt with towards the physical body not as a target but as a main subject. It was around this time when he made an approach for how specific situations were recognized by humans and what behaviors were caused out of them

Life and death have started being much considered since 1980. Nauman conveyed them through the image of public culture and media. In addition, influence by analytic philosophyby Wittgenstein, Nauman was interested in language much more than anyone else. According to the study by Wittgenstein, it was shown from an inquiry of how it was feasible to communicate with people in language representing that limitation of communication was from restriction in the use of language. In addition, when sentences indicating what had to be communicated with people were written on a piece of paper with symbols and letters in the form of image, people were able to express their thought in words. This was why it was not feasible to express the meaning that was non-existent in words through letters and how the definition was made on how “something to be said could only be said thesis (sentences), and, hence, anything needed to understand every thesis could not be said.” Influenced by this assertion by Wittgenstein, Nauman ended up re-structuring the words or letters or creating phrases unexpectedly made by homonyms to make totally new meaning from familiar words in the past. A funny but creative idea that when making a new thesis, in other words, a sentence with combination of re-structured letters based on assertion by Wittgenstein that limitation of language was the limitation of thought showed that new thesis made by different combination of characteristics of pre-established language over a mistake of letter combination regarded to be instantaneous happening came to humans as an expanded and new meaning from practical communication. In other words, it represented how an accidental expansion of language could extend a scope of communication.
